The 16-hour requirement
To keep an active affiliate broker license in Tennessee, you must complete 16 hours of state-approved continuing education every two-year cycle — and TREC is specific about how those hours divide.
1 · The mandatory 6-hour TREC Core course
You can't just take 16 hours of any real estate topics. TREC requires every affiliate broker to complete a specific 6-hour Core Course each renewal cycle, covering critical updates to Tennessee real estate law, commission rules, risk reduction, and contemporary industry issues. Tip: check with your local REALTOR® association first — many now offer Core free to members.
2 · Ten hours of elective courses
The remaining 10 hours are yours to customize around your business goals — live classroom, interactive webinar, or self-paced online. This is where Home Star classes fit: live, TREC-approved electives on AI, tech tools, and video that you'll actually use. The Complete 10 Bundle finishes all 10 in two classes.
Are you a REALTOR®?
The National Association of REALTORS® requires a Code of Ethics course every three years. TREC doesn't require it for state licensing — but a TREC-approved Ethics course can pull double duty and count toward your 10 elective hours.
Step by step
How to track & submit your hours
1 · Find your expiration date
Log in to the TN CORE licensing system or use TREC's public license lookup. Your two-year cycle began two years before that date.
2 · Check CE Broker
CE Broker is Tennessee's official CE tracker. Course sponsors (like us) report your completed hours there — verify your running total anytime.
3 · Close the gap
Book your Core course and electives with time to spare. Aim to finish at least 10 days before expiration so everything posts.
4 · Renew through TN CORE
Once CE Broker shows 16/16, submit your renewal application and fee through the state's CORE license management system.
